Joliet Light Up the Holidays Parade
Thank you to friends and families for attending the Joliet Parade Friday evening. The PSHS Band performed wonderfully in less than desirable weather conditions to bring smiles to all who attended!

IMEA District 9 Festival: A Sonic Success!
Congratulations to Max O'Mary for his wonderful performance at Hampshire High School! Max traveled with other PSHS music students to participate in the IMEA District 9 Festival. We were all treated to sonically stunning performances by all groups. In addition, Max placed 2nd chair. The PSHS band family is proud of you and all of your accomplishments!

Eat lunch prior
to your arrival at PSHS.

All students are
required to ride the bus to and from this performance unless you have filled
out an “Alternate Transportation” form and turned it in at least 48 hours in
advance. (DUE BY THUR. 9/13)

Keep in mind that
you are representing Plainfield and PSHS at this event. You will be watched and judged based on your
behavior. It is expected that you
represent your community in a positive manner at all times. Show support for the other schools the way
you would want them to support you.
o
Wear your band
t-shirt underneath your uniform. Bring jeans or other pants to wear with your
band t-shirt in the stands.
o
Bring cash for dinner. You will be eating from their concession
stand. Please make arrangements if you have special needs for dinner.
o
Cost of spectator
admission is: Adults - $10, Seniors and students - $7, age 5 and under are
free. There is also a family rate - $25
(2 adults & 2 children)

In addition, for each of the three pieces, there is a recording you can use to play along with. Please make sure that you print off the music for THE CORRECT INSTRUMENT! If you need assistance, please see Mr. Jamrose.

First Day of School and Other Information
Marching Band:
- We are performing TOMORROW (FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL) during first hour for our kick-off assembly! Make sure you have your instrument for tomorrow.
- There will be an all call tomorrow at 7:15 to dismiss you. Come to the band room. Seniors, you will be dismissed at the same time, but as a class to go down to the gym for a senior only meeting. You of course will be allowed to go, but are also welcome to perform with you if you wish :-)
- First performance is Friday, August 17th for Blue & White night. Our call for Friday will be 5:00pm and please wear your grey PSHS band shirt (you will receive these this week if you do not have one) and a pair of khaki shorts.
- We are super excited to see you all tomorrow!

Band Picnic TODAY - Friday, 5/25
The Annual Band Picnic is TODAY!
When: Friday, May 25, 4-7pm (ish)
Who: Everyone in band. (Alumni welcome, too)
Where: Eaton Preserve off of Rt. 59 (behind Meijer)
THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN LAST YEAR! SEE THE MAP BELOW:
(Take Rt. 59 North, turn right on 135th street and the park is on the right.)
When: Friday, May 25, 4-7pm (ish)
Who: Everyone in band. (Alumni welcome, too)

This will be a “potluck” style picnic with everyone bringing something to share. Suggestions are:
Flutes - Drinks (pop, punch, iced tea, lemon aid, etc.)
Oboes and Bassoons –Condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish, etc.)
Clarinets – Desserts
Saxes – Fruit (berries, cut-up apples, watermelon, grapes, etc.) or veggies
Trumpets – Chips
Horns – Paper products (plates, cups, napkins, forks, etc.)
Low brass – meat (hot dogs, brats, hamburger, etc.)
Percussion – Buns
Directors - Charcoal
When purchasing items, keep in mind there are about 140 students and others may be bringing the same item. No one person should spend more than about $4.

5/20 - Graduation - 12pm call time - Band Concert - Please join us next Tuesday, May 8, for the Spring Pops Concert. In addition to great music, we will have a variety of flowers for sale (flats and pots, $20 each). Proceeds go to the band. In addition, we will have TCBY after the concert for $3 and boostershop items (including band alumni shirts!).
- Band Banquet - Please join us for the Band Banquet on May 12. Invitations were sent home last week. (Click here for another copy.) Please return the RSVP form with payment by Monday, May 7.

Following are the details for 3 upcoming events:
- Buffalo Wild Wings is WEDNESDAY, 4/18. Click here for more info and the flyer you need to bring with you!
- Clef Notes: give your favorite Band Student an “atta-boy” by purchasing a Clef Notes spot in the bulletin of our last band concert on May 8. Click here for all the details. Remember—orders and payment due by Wednesday, May 2.
- Flower Sale Fundraiser: we are simplifying the Flower Sale this year by having flats of varied annuals and pots of mixed annuals for sale (Flats and Pots $20 each) at the final Band Concert on May 8 and at the Band Banquet on May 12. No profits will be posted to Student Accounts with this simplified procedure—all income will go into our New Uniform fund.

It's simple - just go to BWW sometime on 4/18, eat some food, and 20% of food profits will go to the PSHS Band. You will need to present a coupon (available online here) to receive credit.
Note: The fundraiser will occur at the NORTH Plainfield Buffalo Wild Wings Location (near Plainfield North High School). Address is: 11820 S. Rt. 59, Plainfield, IL. It is in the same parking lot as Kohls.

- Symphonic Band - Please mark your calendars for 2 extra evening rehearsals to prepare for PICBF. See above for times and dates.
- PICBF - The Plainfield Invitational Concert Band Festival (PICBF) will be Saturday, 4/28, at Plainfield Central HS. This is for Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble only. Performance times are: Wind Ensemble, 10:30am / Symphonic Band, 1:30pm. Both groups will perform in the auditorium. Exact call times and more specific information will be available by the end of the week.

Pre-Spring Break Announcements
Before you go on break, here are some quick announcements:
- PICBF Performance Times (call times will be earlier):
Wind Ensemble - 10:30am
Symphonic Band - 1:30pm - Band Booster Senior Scholarship applications as well as Summer Camp Scholarship applications are now available in the band room.
- Marching Band Leadership Team information is available in the band room. Auditions will be after spring break.
- Students registered for band next year will be receiving info about the 2012-2013 band in the mail shortly. An electronic copy is available here.

Time slots can be 4 – 6 pm and 6 – 8 pm, or both, or anything in-between that works with your schedule.

Jazz Concert opportunity @PSHS tonight...
PSHS is pleased to welcome Harmonic Convergence, a collegiate jazz and a-cappella singing group from Creston, Iowa. Opening for the group tonight is our very own PSHS Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Admission is free. The performance starts at 7:30 PM in the auditorium this evening. Hope to see you there!
