CORRECTION: The date for the February Band Booster Meeting is Tuesday, 2/8 (TONIGHT).  This was incorrect on the previous e-mail.  All other dates posted were correct.  Please see the corrected announcement here.

Announcements: 2/7/2011

Happy February!  Hopefully you have managed to dig out from under the snow!  Here are some announcements:

1. Schedule -
   2/8 - Extra rehearsal for Concert Band A, 6-9pm
   2/8 - Band Booster Meeting, 7:30pm
   2/10 - Mid-Winter Band Concert, 7pm
   2/15 - SPC Honor Band Festival (selected students only)
   2/16 - Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser #2!  (see below for info)
2. Please join us for our February Band Booster meeting at 7:30 tomorrow (Tuesday).  We are always looking for new and multiple opinions!
3. Mid-winter Concert - Please come join us to see the hard work of our students at 7pm on Thursday in the auditorium.  Call time for students is TBD and will be announced in class.
4. Mark your calendars for our second Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser on Wednesday, 2/16.  Last time we made of $500 and had a great time!  Present our coupon when you order and a portion of the profits will come back to the band.  (This is the BWW on the north side of Plainfield.)
   

Reminder: PSHS Band Adult Get-Together TOMORROW!

Just a quick reminder:  

Tomorrow is the annual Band Booster Adult Get-Together!   

We are hoping a lot of band parents, alumni parents, and booster members will attend.  Each year there is good food and even better company!

4th annual Band Booster Adult Get-together

Calling all band parents, booster members, and alumni parents!

Please come out to join us for the 3rd annual Band Booster Adult Get-together!  This is a very fun evening for some relaxation and socializing!  If you haven't come in the past, we would love to see you there!  Details are as follows:

Saturday evening, January 22, 2011, at the Wesmere Clubhouse from 7-10pm.  Bring a dessert or appetizer to share, and your own beverages!  No need to RSVP...

Announcements: 1/5/2011

Welcome back!  Hope you had a great break.  We're back in the swing of things in the band department.  Here are some announcements:

1. Schedule -1/11 - Band Booster Meeting (7:30pm, band room)
   1/12 - Solo/Ensemble forms due (see below for info)
2. Thank you to everyone who helped with the Barnes and Noble Fundraiser.  We earned approximately $550 for the band!  Great work!
3. Final Exams occur next week.  The band exam includes a scale test and a written test.  The scale test is difficult for many students.  Please make sure your students are practicing their scales daily so they do well.  A study guide for the written exam was distributed this week.
4. Solo and Ensemble Day - Each year PSHS hosts the Plainfield High Schools Solo and Ensemble Festival.  This festival gives our students the opportunity to perform a solo/small ensemble piece for a judge.  What is particularly nice about the event is that the students receive written feedback and a mini-lesson with the judge.  All students are STRONGLY encouraged to participate.  
5. Solo & Ensemble Information is available here.  There is a cost of $10 per solo and $5 per person for ensembles.  This covers the judges fees.  To participate, students must complete a permission form (attached to the info form) and an entry form (click here).  All materials are due by Wednesday, 1/12. 

Announcements: 12/13/2010

1. Congratulations to our students for a wonderful Collage Concert!  We have received many compliments from audience members (and MANY faculty) thanking the students for their hard work.  Great job!
2. Cheesecake pickup is TONIGHT from 6-8pm.  If you ordered a cheesecake, please pick it up in the band room.  Also, there was a delay in the shipment of the Coffee/Tea order.  If you purchased coffee or tea, it will not be available tonight.  Instead, we will distribute that to students in class once it arrives.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
3. Final Exams occur the second week after returning to school in January.  Part of the exam for band students is the IMEA scale sheet.  This is a difficult sheet for many students.  Please encourage your students to practice this DAILY over break.  Doing so will make a significant impact on their semester grade and will allow us to perform more advanced music in the spring.  If we all work together, we will have greater success in the band program!
4. Please have a restful and enjoyable Holiday Break.  Looking forward to great things in 2011!

URGENT: Help needed to monitor rooms tonight

Dear all,

We are in deperate need of room monitors for tonight's collage concerts.  We currently have NO volunteers to monitor during the 5:30-7:45 time slot.  The job is simple - you can read a book and just keep an eye on things!

Please e-mail Mr. Dortwegt (cdortweg@psd202.org) asap if you can help.

P.S. - we have enough volunteers for the 7:45-9:00 time slot, but could use one or two more if you are available.

Collage Concert Week Information

Collage Week: The collage concert is a combined band and choir event. At this concert, we create a continuous flow of music for the entire show, meaning there are smooth transitions and no applause in between pieces. To achieve this effect, we need additional rehearsal time. The schedule for next week is:

• Tuesday, 12/7 – Rehearsal 3:30-8:00pm
• Wednesday, 12/8 – Rehearsal 3:30-8:00pm
• Thursday, 12/9 – Performances at 6:30pm and 8:15pm
• Friday, 12/10 – Emergency date for concert in case of weather

Rehearsals: Students should bring homework, as they will not be performing during the entire time. There will not be an “official” dinner break; instead, students may bring a sack lunch to eat during free time.

Performances: Both performances are on the same night: 12/9. Two performances are scheduled to accommodate large crowds. Because of parent work commitments, we anticipate more people at the 8:15 concert. Therefore, if you can make it to the 6:30 concert, you are encouraged to attend at that time. Note: The Friday date will occur ONLY if we have inclement weather on one of the other dates.

Parent Supervision Needed: Since directors are often not in the room, it is important to have adult supervision each evening.  If you can help supervise the band room during one of the following shifts, please contact Mr. Dortwegt (cdortweg@psd202.org).

Reminders: Barnes & Noble and Scrip

A couple of brief reminders:

1. The Barnes & Noble Book Fair Fundraiser is TODAY from 4-8pm.  Please do some holiday shopping (which most people do anyway) and support our band at the same time.  Click here for more information.
2. Don't forget to order Scrip Cards for use during the holidays or for gifts!  Scrip cards are just like gift cards - you receive the entire value, and the retailer donates to the band.  If you plan to give gift cards, PLEASE order them through the Scrip program!  To place an order, go to shopwithscrip.com, or call/e-mail Kristen Hamilton at 815.436.1877/hownkris@comcast.net.  Orders are due by December 10 for delivery to you by December 17.
